2nd Amendment Right to Bare Arms

&  Carry a Concealed Weapon

The topic of the 2nd amendment and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) is a hot topic. My view on the CCW is a little lenient then probably the former sheriffs.  Currently the sheriffs policy is that you have to have a need or be justified to get a CCW permit.  For instance one of the rules is that if you have a business, you must carry more then $500 dollars on you when you carry your weapon.  This doesn't make much sense to me. If I were the one that had those conditions on my permit, I would save $500 dollars and carry it with me all the time!

I believe that if a person meets the requirements of CCW as proposed in the House File 2613 I believe they should have a CCW permit.  I have read through the Proposed House File 2613 and have to admit I agree with it.  I am glad to see the sentence "the issuing officer reasonably determines that the applicant does not constitute a danger to any person."  The only reason I state this is that I think there are people out there that have not been detected by the system for having mental illness or a history of aggression without criminal convictions.

Also one of the things in House file 2613 I would like to see added is that when you originally get your CCW permit that you have to have firearms training along with a qualification. Currently once you get your permit, you do not have to ever shoot again.  I would like to see people with a CCW permit qualify annually or bi-annually as we do in law enforcement.  I think this would also provide a good time for people with CCW permits to interact with law enforcement.  I also believe people with CCW permits are people that like to shoot and it would give them the opportunity to brush up on their skills.

I am a certified hunter safety instructor and there are two other deputies at the office that are as well.  I would like to see the sheriff's department host a hunter safety course at the sheriffs office yearly.  I'd also like to help out the schools that don't have a course implemented in their schools.
