Educate, Involve & Inform
the Community
As
Sheriff I plan on increasing community education through informing and
involving.
One of my priorities is to increase the amount of
news releases and educational awareness programs. I will provide the
public with information on current and recent crimes that are in the
area and ways to avoid them and how and where to report them. I would
like to publish a regular article in the newspapers highlighting recent
arrests, crimes investigated, department functions, and programs hosted
by the sheriff’s office.

I want to make programs more
available to the community. I want to implement a Hunter Safety
Education course through the sheriff’s office to compliment the programs
currently in the county. At the present time not all schools in Clayton
County offer hunter education. I want to provide the opportunity to
local youths for this program.
I want to continue with the “I
Pledge” program which offers tobacco retailer education on avoiding
making sales of tobacco to youths. I would also like to expand on the
alcohol retailer education. Currently the sheriffs department only
offers this training with assistance from Helping Services of Northeast
Iowa. The education and training has been dependant on grants obtained
by Helping Services. I would like to make this a regular program offered
by the sheriffs’ office.
I would like expand the booth that
the sheriffs’ office maintains every year at the county fair. I would
like to invite other law enforcement agencies to join in at the booth so
that officers from all jurisdictions can be represented and answer
questions from the general public.
I would also make deputies available
to speak at local organizations on various topics upon request.
